Tips for restaurant owners dealing with the press
December 22, 2013- the news of a PR agent tweeting an insensitive comment about getting AIDS on her travel to South Africa relates to my comments about PR people, below.
December 18, 2013- By Steven E. Greer
In my day job, so to speak, I deal with national media and various counterparts in the process of producing stories about national topics. I also run BatteryPark.TV, which gives me insight into the local press and small businesses. I have spotted some common mistakes made by restaurant and retail shop owners when they deal with requests for interviews. In a genuine attempt to be helpful, I have some suggestions. More conflicts of interest from the Bill Thompson era BPCA
January 16, 2013 By Steven E. Greer, MD
BatteryPark.TV previously reported how a BPCA board member, Martha Gallo, seemed uncomfortable discussing the issue of whether fraud transpired in the BPCA, during a pre-audit board meeting this month. There could be many reasons for this. After all, the former Chairman, Bill Thompson, and former CEO, Gayle Horwitz, both abruptly resigned in 2012.
A Daily News article, which was later pulled from the site, reported that, while still Chairman of the BPCA, Mr. Thompson was receiving Mayoral campaign donations for his 2013 run, and those donations came Continue reading

NY Waterway stalling on promised ferry boat engine replacements
January 13, 2013 By Steven E Greer, MD
At the January 15th, 2013, CB1 BPC meeting, the NY Waterway ferry company attended to give updates on their promised solutions to address noise and pollution complaints. For decades, the ferries have been a hot-button topic for BPC residents who live along the Hudson River, and for parents who take their children to the BPC Parks near the Port Authority slip by the Irish Memorial. The takeaway from the meeting was that the ferry boat company has made no progress with some of the efforts.
Recall (see below), BatteryPark.TV initiated in 2011 investigations into the noise and pollution caused by the NY Waterway ferry boats that dock in the slip near Vesey Street and the Irish Memorial. The CB1 Chairwoman Linda Belfer began investigations, and Continue reading

How to save the Little League season
Opinion January 10, 2013 By Steven E. Greer, MD
More than a thousand Battery Park and Tribeca kids might miss out this year. The Little League season seems likely to be cancelled due to damage to the ballfields on Murray Street north of Goldman Sachs. The BPCA announced that the damage to the fields was so extensive, that the turf will have to be replaced, and that lengthy bureacratic RFP’s will be issued to determine the contractor. All of this will take many months. Why RFP’s are being issued is unclear, since they are not required in times of crisis, such as Hurricane Sandy damage repair.
Are the ballfields really damaged so badly that they cannot be used right now as a temporary solution? Continue reading

The New York Stock Exchange traders are almost extinct
January 13, 2013
The New York Post is reporting that the low volumes of trading in equities, combined with other factors such as newer electronic exchanges, has caused the number of NYSE human traders on the floor to diminish from 3,000 in the year 2007, to only 300 now. The ICE acquired NYSE recently. Many believe that the NYSE is merely a “museum” and kept in business for the brand power alone. Don’t be surprised to see a new Cipriani occupy the NYSE building soon.
