NY Times covers local BPC effort to stop helicopter noise
March 22, 2014- BatteryPark.TV first got Rep. Nadler involved in a quality of life problem plaguing BPC and other waterfront neighborhoods. The hundreds of tourist helicopters each day are a serious cause of stress for residents, as are loud ferry boat horns.
BP.TV also recommended to the most vocal complainer of the helicopter noise, South BPC resident Delia von Neuschatz, that she form an official website. She did so, and the site is called StopTheChopNYNJ.
The NY Times reported on their efforts, Continue reading
Letter to editor: Margaret Chin does not represent Downtown
March 19, 2014- By Battery Park Dad
Regarding recent comments on BatteryPark.TV about Councilwoman Margaret Chin representing only Chinatown and city unions, I couldn’t agree more. If you want to make sure the Chinatown Senior Centers get their funding (and she gets her vote), then she is your go to. If it has anything to do with supporting the families in BPC or FiDi that have transformed the neighborhoods over the last 10 years, then you are out of luck: Very different neighborhoods, very different priorities.
She has been swept up in the “Progressive Revolution” and Continue reading

Exclusive: Bob Townley’s Manhattan Youth investigated by State Attorney General
March 7, 2014- By Steven E. Greer
Bob Townley is the founder and operator of the Manhattan Youth Recreation and Resources Inc, a 501c New York State regulated non-profit. It operates the community center on 120 Warren Street as well as the after school child programs for most of the public schools Downtown (PS’s 276, 89, 150, 397, 343).
In addition, Mr. Townley personally owns a small hotel in Upstate New York called the Belleayre Lodge & Cabins, to which Mr. Townley sends kids from his Manhattan Youth to summer camp. That facility is a for-profit entity, not a non-profit 501c.

The NYPD should be given jurisdiction over the WTC and 9/11 Memorial
March 22, 2014- The breach of security at the One World Trade Center site by a 16-year-old kids makes it now obvious that the Port Authority police are incompetent. After all, the Port Authority is the same corrupt agency that was used by Governor Christos to retaliate against a New Jersey Continue reading
Zero coverage in local press of most important issue to BPC in years
March 11, 2014- By Steven E. Greer
BatteryPark.TV exclusively reported that the operators of the new Pier A restaurant were granted by the CB1 a rare 4:00 AM liquor license in a residential community. Attending the CB1 meeting on March 4th were reporters from all of the local sources. One week later, not a single source has reported on the meeting.
This is not an accidental oversight. Continue reading

Citi Bike rates to increase
Update March 22, 2014- The cost for a Citi Bike will likely go up to cover the deficit run by the inept operators from Oregon. The WSJ reports.
March 20, 2014- BatteryPark.TV has been the most vocal supporter of the concept of bike sharing. That is why this story is so disturbing.
Despite huge demand, the inept bungling buffoons who run the Citi Bike program are losing money. The WSJ reports, “Citi Bike has been forced to contend with a number of costly issues, including damage Continue reading
Help us monitor our PEP
It is now clear that our expensive Park Enforcement Patrol are not showing up for duty in the numbers provided for in the contract between the BPCA and city. BatteryPark.TV has learned that BPC-funded PEP are being reassigned to the south in Battery Park (not to be confused with BPC), and to the north in the Hudson River Park. That is illegal.
If you walk your dog, ride your bike, or jog regularly, please email us when you see one of the BPC PEP officers patrolling in other parks. Take photos as well.

A new medical device to make blood thinners unnecessary
Thromboembolic stroke caused by atrial fibrillation is the primary reason patients are placed on anticoagulation. However, those blood thinners also carry significant bleeding risks. As a result, various mechanical surgical approaches have been tried to prevent stroke, and obviate the blood thinners. Continue reading
Is sugar (fructose) a poison?
Robert Lustig, MD of the UCSF division of endocrinology and metabolism has become one of the more vocal and credible critics of the pervasive dietary sugar, whether it be in the form of table sugar (sucrose, which is a glucose and fructose molecule bound) or high-fructose corn syrup (a manmade glucose and fructose product). In a viral video of one of his lectures, which we edited down to 30-minutes focusing on the fructose metabolism, he explains how fructose is a poison to the body and the cause of the obesity epidemic around the world.
Prior to 1975, humans were not exposed to high-fructose corn syrup. Sugar makes food sell better, so for profit and political reasons, the ingredient has wound up in most drinks and foods we consume, including foods one would not expect to have sugar, such as bread and meat. Continue reading

Exclusive: Second major lapse in Port Authority security at One WTC
March 20, 2014- By Steven E. Greer
It’s happened again!
The NY Post is reporting that a 16-year-old young man, out of boredom, sneaked past sleeping security guards at One WTC (The Freedom Tower), and made it to the top spier. This is not the first time that the Port Authority police have allowed thrill-seekers to get to the top of what should be the most secure building in the city. Continue reading
Bob Townley faces uphill battle to regain lost BPCA funds
March 20, 2014- By Steven E. Greer
The Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) board convened a meeting today and the topic of charitable donations was discussed. The board approved new guidelines on how to decide which philanthropy or community organization was worthy of funding. However, no specific group was announced to be regaining the funds that were cut off cold-turkey last year. Continue reading
