Truffle store draws complaints for putrid smell
February 2, 2014- Viewers know that BatteryPark.TV is no fan of truffle oil or truffles. The Post reports, ““Pungent and putrid” smells from a truffle store in an Upper West Side condominium building are permeating apartments, causing home values to plummet, and making at least one condo “uninhabitable,” a lawsuit (more…)
Tribeca’s fruit shanty shack is back

February 1, 2014- Our previous story about the Tribeca fruit shanty shack being evicted was premature. They are back, along with their 24/7 parked hideous graffiti-riden truck. Continue reading

Sallie Krawcheck tries her third attempt at reinventing herself
Opinion February 1, 2014– Sallie Krawcheck was the CFO of Citigroup from 2004 to 2007, and was partly responsible for the bank loading up on risky CDO’s and other mortgage backed derivatives which should have destroyed the bank (White House insiders reported that Tim Giethner, then Treasury Secretary, defied President Obama who wanted to allow Citi to go belly-up.). She was ousted from Citigroup and landed at Merrill Lynch in 2008 running “Wealth Management”, (as Merrill Lynch too was saved from bankruptcy by Bank of America). Sallie did not last long there and her job was eliminated.
Now, once the “most powerful woman on Wall Street”, Continue reading

Jenn Sterger in the tabloids again
Update January 31, 2014- Remember way back in 2010 when BatteryPark.TV exclusively reported on the local waitress who became famous for being the recipient of sexual advances from Brett Favre (see below)? Well, she is in the news again.
The Post reports that she ran into NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at a restaurant. There is no story here, whatsoever, but it is gratuitous click seeking by the Post (so we too will repeat the story). Continue reading

RIP Super Linda
Update December 12, 2013- We predicted the demise of Super Linda back in February with our title “RIP Super Linda”. We see dead people, so to speak.
Sure enough, it is official. Eater reports, “Tribeca Latin restaurant Super Linda is closing after service on Friday. The Super Linda team sends along the following statement: “Lou Ceruzzi has decided to close Super Linda, the Latin grill in Tribeca. He and his partners are excited to bring a new concept, already in the works, to the neighborhood.” As you may recall, Matt Abramcyk and Serge Becker opened this restaurant with a handful of other partners two years ago. Now it sounds like Ceruzzi is in charge. The critics ignored Super Linda, but it had a fun bar and some good food.”
Update February 22, 2013- Super Linda is now mostly devoid of interesting people since the host, Chris, has left for another job. What remains is a Tribeca dudefest, outnumbering the ladies 20 to 1, and wannabe pretentious bearded hipster bartenders who tweet and chat as you wait, then serve you, if they feel like it. With the additional loss of nearby Duane Park, Tribeca is back to being sorely in need of entertainment after 10:00 PM. Continue reading

Tribeca, still lame after 9:00 PM one year later
August 31, 2013- Ranger’s hockey star Sean Avery must agree with us, because he sold his stakes in Tiny’s and Warren 77.
July 16, 2013– Despite high hopes for some new openings, we sadly report that Tribeca is still Super Bad after 9:00 PM. We City Biked to Reade Street, quickly determining that Weather Up was a 6:1 D-bag to girl ratio, and the old Duane Park had left town completely, apparently fed up with the challenges of running a cool Continue reading

January 31, 2014- DNAinfo reports, that the school overgrowing problem Downtown is getting worse, “Despite a tremendous demand for more pre-K seats, two Downtown public schools will be forced to shut down their pre-K programs next fall, to make room for incoming kindergartners. Battery Park City’s P.S. 276 and the Peck Slip School, currently located in Tweed Courthouse while its permanent South Street Seaport building is under construction, will not offer any pre-K classes for the 2014-15 school year, the schools’ principals told DNAinfo New York.” Continue reading
Howard Hughes puts CB1 in its place

Look for veteran pols to be ousted in 2014
January 29, 2014- The Post reports that U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel has numerous candidates lining up to run against him in 2014. Mr. Rangel has been in office since 1993, or 24 years, and has rarely had to run against challengers. His numerous scandals will likely bring him down. Likewise, (more…)
