Letter: Spend the BPCA budget surplus on Battery Park
BPC residents have $126 Million in tax money that should go back into Battery Park City owners and to reduce the monthly building payments.
February 25, 2013 By Barbara Ireland
The huge budget surplus of cash that the Battery Park City Authority now redirects to other parts of the city should be reinvested here in Battery Park. The monthly common charge bills people in BPC pay are the highest in the city. This hurts the overall economics of the owner. Some owners can’t sell at market price since the prospective buyers are afraid of the higher monthly fees. Owners are not able to renovate after 25 years of wear and tear when monthly rents are just covering the owners monthly common charge. BPC residents’ budgets are tight so new restaurants and other luxury retailers are reluctant to start a business here when it may not flourish. Continue reading

No elected officials turn out for yet another Manhattan Youth fundraiser
Bob Townley’s Manhattan Youth center has been incessantly bombarding residents with email solicitations to raise money for his center, claiming that the Hurricane Sandy damage was not covered under insurance. He hosted a fundraiser on February 28th, with invitations droppings names such as Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel.
The local papers (that also receive funding from Manhattan Youth) reported the event as a big success, raising $75,000. However, Continue reading

Durst = Glick = NID tax to Tribeca
March 3, 2013 By Steven E. Greer, MD
The NY Times printed a lengthy article about the Pier 40 debate and the Thursday, February 28th Town Hall. The State of Battery Park: 2013 annual letter
February 18, 2013 By Steven E. Greer, MD
Battery Park (BPC) is a far better place now than it was 12-months ago. Goldman Sachs brought fine dining to BPC for the first time with tremendous successes. Danny Meyer’s North End Grill was voted “Best New Restaurant” by the Zagat survey group and is booked for two rounds of dining every night. Renovations of the new “Brookfield Place” in the World Financial center are progressing, as is the construction of the new Freedom Tower and other office buildings at the old Ground Zero. The rundown old Gate House restaurant has been replaced by a completely remodeled SouthWestNY restaurant that now attracts business executives for bustling lunch crowds: something never seen before on South End Avenue. Exclusive: NY State gives update on NY Waterway ferry boat engines
Update February 7, 2013
NYSERDA provided us with this update, “Two of the remaining 7 vessels are at the shipyard now having the engines and emission controls installed. When they are completed they should be replaced with other vessels. Progress is being made.”
January 24, 2012 By Steven E. Greer
Since 2011, BatteryPark.TV has been reporting on the pollution and noise problems emanating from the NY Waterway ferry boats that dock on the Vesey Street slip by the Irish Memorial. We have given presentations before the CB1, worked with the federal EPA, and most recently, initiated audits by the state and city comptroller’s offices to determine why the ferry company is not renovating the old diesel engines.
Recall, the state agency NYSERDA, through a federal grant, made available more than $7 million to the ferry boat company to retrofit the Tier 0 (most polluting) diesel engines. However, despite the CEO of Billybey Ferry Boat company, Paul Goodman, stating in 2011 that the engines were ordered, only 2 of the 9 boats had received the retrofit. In his most recent appearance before the CB1 in January, 2013, Mr. Goodman reported no progress, and blamed Hurricane Sandy.
After being stonewalled by the ferry boat company, Port Authority, and some members of CB1, BP.TV contacted City Comptroller John Liu and State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli requesting audits of the NYSERDA funds. We have now been given an exclusive update by NYSERDA. Continue reading
