Chaos at the BPCA
Update February 15, 2014- A source in an investigative division of the federal government recently told BatteryPark.TV, “We are following (the BPCA). The FBI is aware of it too.”. This was during a conversation about the BPCA’s application for FEMA funds. The comment was volunteered and not an answer to a question, which caught our attention.
Recall, the decision by the BPCA to allow Pier A to intentionally flood during Hurricane Sandy was investigated by Homeland Security. Now, the BPCA is planing on requesting billions in future FEMA aid for part of the “Rising New York” efforts to harden the waterways and mitigate flooding in the future.
November 21, 2013- By Steven E. Greer
BatteryPark.TV previously reported on the departures of three senior executives of the BPCA: Anne Fenton, Matt Monahan, and Phyllis Taylor. There has been no press release issued explaining the incidents. Moreover, organizations that deal with the BPCA frequently are reporting that the BPCA is radio silent and not replying to emails, etc. A source close to Asphalt Green reported that Continue reading

CB1’s Catherine McVay Hughes fights for her job
January 31, 2014- By Steven E. Greer, MD
The details of the elected officials Downtown are covered closely by the press, but few know how the sausage is made at the Community Board. In February, new CB1 members will be appointed by the new Manhattan Borough President, Gale Brewer, and the re-elected city councilwoman Margaret Chin. Both offices split the duties and appoint 50% each of the new CB1 seats made available by term expirations (see table below).
The Chair of the CB1 is Catherine McVay Hughes. Her term expires this April, and Gale Brewer will be deciding whether to retain McVay Hughes or appoint her own soldier to the board. Continue reading

Letter: Our federal elected officials should address noise pollution of ferry boats
October 4, 2013- Letter from Dean, resident of River Terrace
Dear Editor:
This an opportune time to discuss the “green” aspects of Battery Park City as they relate to the air quality outside of the Solaire residential building. The Port Authority Ferry Terminal is producing a massive amount of noise pollution in Battery Park City.
There are federal laws to Continue reading

Letter: The dog poop scourge of Battery Park City
I recently moved into 380 Rector Place and I have a dog. I walk throughout our neighborhood and I am shocked by the amount of dog waste there is on the street and on the promenade. Is there no enforcement in our neighborhood ?
I feel like we need to charge a fee to all dog owners including me (I pick up I even pick up if I see other waste by mine) for a pick up fee and have someone clean up after these lazy people. Maybe, if we start charging people they will pick up.
Can you post signs on every tree tell them to pick up? It is just disgusting.
When the weather gets warmer it will truly be a health hazard not to mention the smell.
Please tell me if there is anything I can do as a concerned New New Yorker resident.
Thank you.

Letter: BPCA is a Greek fiefdom
I think that nobody is happy with this ongoing process within the Battery Park City Authority (BPCA). They fire people making below $50,000, but then they re-hire for the same position people with little different title but with double the salary. HR is in cahoots with them. The VP HR lady was hired under the new BPCA administration, without any qualifications, for $138,000. She brought from her old job three more people with salaries above $80,000, without any reason to hire them.
They do not advertise the positions and think that this is their fiefdom. They think they can do anything.
Chairman Dennis Mehiel is no less guilty. A person of Continue reading
