Is Bob Townley’s $150 flag football “affordable”
December 5, 2013- By Steven E. Greer
Bob Townley has been the biggest critic of the Asphalt Green community center. His talking points have focused on the fact the Asphalt Green in BPC does not provide discounted or free memberships as does the Upper East side Asphalt Green. When protesting the planned closure of the Stuyvesant community center, the main argument he used was that it was the only “affordable” community center.
Bob Townley’s Tribeca community center, Manhattan Youth, which enjoys free use of the ballfields in BPC, paid for by the BPCA, is running a flag football course. The fee is not cheap. They are charging $150 per person. For Manhattan Youth members, it is free.
It seem strange that Continue reading

WSJ explains how cotton and other commodities are often counterfeit
December 9, 2013- Perhaps inspired by our stories, our friends at the WSJ have an article today explaining how “cotton” and other commodities are often of poor quality, or counterfeit. “Jesse Curlee is on a mission to stamp out textile trickery, one strand of DNA at a time. As president of Supima, the three-decade veteran of the textile industry is tasked with ensuring that the brand of premium U.S.-grown cotton touted on labels, such as those on Brooks Brothers and L.L. Bean shirts, is legit.
When a textile mill in Hong Kong flagged Continue reading

Durst screws up the Freedom Tower antenna
September 11, 2013- If you have looked at the tall tower atop the WTC 1 “Freedom Tower” and thought to your self, “That is ugly. I wonder if they are still building it.”, you are not alone. It is a mess, and was caused by developer Durst, according to the WSJ. Recall, we previously reported how the entire name of the tower has been botched by Durst.
The WSJ reports, “Yet just as construction costs have ballooned to nearly $4 billion, making this by far the most expensive new office building in the world, its developers—the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, along with the Durst Organization—have decided to cut one last corner, blunting the building’s most prominent and important symbol.
In 2005,
David M. Childs took Continue reading
